HOW TO OVERCOME OBSTACLES AND REACH YOUR GOAL

A determined young African man standing on top of a rocky hill during golden hour sunset, looking at a city skyline and his dream house in the distance, symbolizing overcoming challenges in life
Life is a journey. And on every journey, there are mountains, valleys, rain, and scorching sun. No one goes through life without facing challenges. The problem is not the challenge itself. The problem is how we respond to that challenge.

Today I want to tell you the raw truth. If you have a dream, prepare to meet challenges. And if you are facing one right now, congratulations. That means you are on the right path.

Let’s start with 2 real-life examples.

EXAMPLE 1: THE STUDENT AND THE DREAM TO PASS

Meet Juma. Juma is a Form Four student. He has one goal: To pass his final exams and go to college.

He studied hard all year. But 2 months before the exams, he faces a challenge. He has a fight with one of his teachers.

Suddenly, everything changes.

He becomes afraid to enter class. He is afraid to ask questions. He gets angry. He starts saying "This teacher doesn’t want me to pass." He loses focus. He starts to hate school.

Is the challenge the exam? No.

The challenge is the conflict with the teacher.

This is where most people fail. They forget their original goal and start fighting the obstacle.

EXAMPLE 2: THE YOUNG MAN AND THE DREAM OF A BETTER LIFE

Now meet Musa. Musa is 26 years old. His dream is big and beautiful: To get a good wife for marriage and to own his own house.

He pictures himself in 5 years with his family, living in his own house, with peace.

But before he gets there, life tests him.

Challenge 1: He is unemployed. He sends CVs everywhere but gets no reply. His account is empty. He is stressed.

Challenge 2: Temptations from other women. His mind tells him "enjoy life first". He starts spending time and money on different women. He forgets to save. He forgets to plan.

After 2 years, he looks back. He has no good job. He has no money. He has no house. And he still has no wife. He starts blaming himself and saying "life is hard".

Was his dream bad? No.

Did God forget him? No.

What was the problem? He allowed challenges to push him off the path.

PART 1: WHY DO CHALLENGES COME?

Many people think challenges are a sign of failure. That is a lie.

Challenges are 3 things:

1.  A sign that you are growing: A plant cannot grow without rain. And you cannot grow without pressure.

2.  A sign that you are close to your goal: The devil doesn’t attack someone who is just sitting. He attacks someone who is rising. If you are facing many attacks, it means your breakthrough is near.

3.  Life is teaching you: Before it gives you a house, life wants to know if you have the discipline to pay rent. Before it gives you a wife, it wants to know if you can control your emotions.

PART 2: THE 3 MISTAKES PEOPLE MAKE WHEN FACING CHALLENGES

Mistake 1: FOCUSING ON THE OBSTACLE INSTEAD OF THE GOAL

Like Juma. Instead of saying "my goal is to pass", he says "my goal is to defeat the teacher".

When you fight the obstacle, you give it power. Fight for the goal.

Mistake 2: NOT SEPARATING WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL FROM WHAT YOU CAN’T

Musa cannot control if there is a job today or not. But he can control how many hours he spends looking for a job, learning a new skill, and stopping wasteful spending.

Put 100% of your energy into what you CAN control.

Mistake 3: WANTING TO SOLVE EVERYTHING IN ONE DAY

You want a house, marriage, car, and business all in one year. When you miss 1, you get discouraged.

Life is about laying one brick at a time. Today get a small job. Next month learn a skill. Next year start a small business. Slow and steady wins.

PART 3: A 5-STEP STRATEGY TO OVERCOME ANY CHALLENGE

This is the medicine. Write it down and apply it.

STEP 1: ACCEPT AND CONFRONT IT

Stop denying. Say "Yes, I have a challenge". Juma should say "I have a problem with my teacher". Musa should say "I am unemployed and I have temptations".

Once you accept it, your brain starts looking for solutions.

STEP 2: GO BACK TO YOUR "WHY"

Why did you want to pass? Why did you want a house? Write down 3 reasons.

When you read your "why" every morning, the challenge will look small.

STEP 3: BREAK THE BIG GOAL INTO SMALL PIECES

Juma: The goal is not "to pass". This week’s goal is "to revise Chapters 1-3 of Mathematics".

Musa: The goal is not "to build a house". This month’s goal is "to get a job paying $120 and save $20".

Small wins build big confidence.

STEP 4: FIND HELP AND TOOLS

Juma can ask another teacher for help, use YouTube, or join a study group.

Musa can go to job centers, learn an online skill like marketing, and stay away from friends who distract him.

No hero fights alone.

STEP 5: MASTER YOUR MIND AND EMOTIONS

This is the hardest one. All challenges first fight in your mind.

Every morning tell yourself: "This challenge is preparing me for a bigger blessing".

If it’s temptation, set rules. If it’s anger, breathe. If it’s fear, take one small action.

PART 4: A FINAL MESSAGE TO JUMA AND MUSA

Juma, that teacher is just a test. The exam to pass is not in the teacher’s hands. It’s in your pen. Study. Ask for help. Do the exam. In 3 months you will be in college and you will forget that teacher. But if you fail now, you will remember him for the rest of your life.

Musa, unemployment is just a season. Seasons pass. But your habit of controlling your emotions and your money is what will determine if you get a house or not. Get disciplined. Take any job. Save. Learn. The right woman and the right house come to the right man. And the right man is built during times of challenge.

CONCLUSION

Dear reader, let me tell you this truth today:

Challenges are not here to stop you. They are the way to get you to where you want to go.

Every fight, every job loss, every tear, every sleepless night... they are bricks for the house of your dreams.

Don’t run from challenges. Walk through them. Learn from them. Grow with them.

One day you will look back and say "Thank you God for that challenge. If I didn’t go through that, I wouldn’t be where I am today."

Now a question for you:

What challenge are you facing right now? Write it in the comments. Then choose STEP 1 from above and start today.

I am Lameck from DikononeAgent. We are in this journey of building discipline and reaching our goals together.
